WILLIAM SEYMOUR “BILL” LYNN Of Cape Coral, Florida died June 2, 2014 from cancer. Bill was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 11, 1939. He grew up in Occoquan where he developed his love of boating, swimming and fishing at a young age. He graduated from Gar-Field High School in 1958 and attended the College of William and Mary. In the early 1960’s he joined his father and uncle in establishing Prince William Marina, a full service power boat facility, located on the Occoquan River. He was Secretary and Vice President respectively of family corporations, W.S. Lynn & Sons, Inc. and Riverwalk at Occoquan, Inc.
Bill, along with other young community business leaders, was instrumental in organizing Woodbridge’s Junior Chamber of Commerce in the 60’s. He served as Vice President of the Greater Woodbridge Jaycees, and received their Distinguished Service Award, Outstanding Young Men of the Year award, and Sparkplug Award. He was listed in the 1966 edition of “Outstanding Young Men in America”. He held membership in Johnson Motors Franchised Dealers Association, and received their Anchorman Award. In 1965, he was awarded the Big G-Award by Glasspar Boat Co. Bill held membership in Washington Marine Dealers and Starcraft Boats Franchise Dealers Association. He served as Mayor and Council member for the Town of Occoquan.
Following his move to New Smyrna Beach, FL in 1969 Bill owned and managed Smyrna Marina located there on the inter-coastal waterway. After selling his marina he served as a design engineer for Paul Kuck’s Regal Marine Industries. In the mid 80’s he moved to Florida’s west coast. Although semi-retired, he kept going back to what he enjoyed — selling boats in area marinas. He was a licensed yacht broker and operated under the name of Tropical Yacht Sales. In recent years he has enjoyed his membership in the Cape Coral Cruise Club.
Bill is survived by his three sons, Frederick Michael Lynn, William Kelly Lynn, Christopher Lynn Hartley all of New Smyrna Beach, FL one grandson, Spencer Michael Lynn of Bristol, TN, two sisters, Rebecca “Becky” Casagrande of Naples, FL and Letty G. Lynn of Falls Church, VA and his significant other, Patricia Evans. Bill is also survived by his ex-wife Joan Kelly Lynn. He is preceded in death by his second wife Dolores Hampton Lynn and his parents Frederick Marshall Lynn and Aileen Baker Lynn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 10, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191, where funeral services will be held Wednesday June 11 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Pohick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
