Rainer Karl Korb

Rainer Karl Korb, 75, of Haymarket, passed away unexpectedly February 28, 2014 at the Novant Health – Prince William Medical Center.

Born April 3, 1938 in Stuttgart, Germany, he was the son of Karl and Bertha Rogner Korb. On February 12, 1966 in Queens, NY, he married the former Carol Smith, who survives.

Mr. Korb served as a police officer for the NYPD – 32nd precinct for over 20 years, and was also a United States Army Reservist for over 32 years. He coached soccer in Commack, NY, was a marathon runner, had a passion for fishing and served as a volunteer at the Prince William Medical Center in Manassas. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed dearly by his family and many friends both in New York and Virginia.

Surviving besides his beloved wife of 48 years, Carol Korb of Haymarket, are two daughters, Carolyn Lynch and her husband Dale of Vienna; Sharon Agostinelli and her husband Salvatore of Kings Park, NY; one brother, Karl-Heinz Korb of Stuttgart, Germany; and three grandchildren, Anthony Agostinelli, Shane Lynch and Megan Lynch.

The family will receive friends on March 6, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment taking place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation – AFA- alzfdn.org .
