With weather forecasts projecting 6-10 inches of snow in the Stafford area, VDOT has mobilized and prepared to clear major roadways across the state.
More than 800 pieces of equipment are available in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to plow roads and apply sand and salt. Approximately 70 trucks are dedicated to clearing Interstate 95’s travel lanes and ramps.
Yesterday, VDOT pre-treated the interstate, primary roads and high-volume secondary roads with an anti-icing solution of salt brine. Anti-icing prevents ice from bonding to the pavement during inclement weather, which reduces the risk of hazardous travel conditions.
VDOT plans to work non-stop once the snow begins, making sure that all state-maintained roads are safe to travel. The goal is to have all major roadways cleared and passable within 48 hours after the storm has finished.
They have encouraged drivers to limit their time on the roads during the storm.
