Updated: Jeep accelerates, crashes

A 58-year-old man was injured after he crashed into some trees and flipped his car on U.S. 1 in Woodbridge.

Update Friday 3 p.m.
A 58-year-old man was taken to a hospital Thursday after his Jeep struck several trees and overturned.

It happened while the man was traveling north on U.S. 1 in Woodbridge.

His 2009 Jeep Wrangler accelerated and the driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting other cars on the road. Then the driver swerved completely off the road and into some trees that line Fox Lair Drive, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The Jeep overturned and the driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Perok.

The crash happened at the entrance to an apartment complex, and access to the neighborhood was cut off while crews worked Thursday afternoon to clean up debris left in the wake of the crash.

Woodbridge, Va. ––
Rescue crews are cleaning up the mess left behind after a driver of a Jeep plowed in to a building in Woodbridge.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. in the area of U.S. 1 and Fox Lair Drive.

Initial reports indicate the driver plowed into a building, presumably at a nearby apartment complex.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, according to initial reports.

A Prince William police spokesman on Thursday afternoon said he did not have any information on the crash.

Clean-up crews were sweeping debris left behind by the crash and had put the victim’s vehicle – what appeared to be a Jeep Wrangler – on the back of a flatbed truck.

Police had the entrance to the apartment complex closed to traffic.
