Area police departments and residents will celebrate the 30th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday.
Several communities have celebrations planned, and we want you to share photos of your celebration with us. We’ll post them here on Potomac Local News.
The following neighborhoods and organizations have posted information about their respective planned National Night Out celebrations:
Prince William County
The Prince William County Police Department will observe the 30th National Night Out celebration this year by encouraging County residents to lock their doors, turn on outdoor lights and spend the evening of Tuesday, August 6, outside with their neighbors as a symbol that they care about their neighborhoods.
National Night Out – coordinated by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Police Department in partnership with the Prince William Crime Prevention Council – is designed to help create healthy neighborhoods block by block, to help neighbors know one another, to celebrate community, and to take steps to make neighborhoods safer for all residents.
Additionally, National Night Out helps form good relationships between the community and the Police Department. Neighborhood Watch programs, and National Night Out, help to create a neighborhood network to prevent crime and enhance the quality of life in the County.
Dumfries
On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, the Dumfries Police Department is asking its Town residents to join them in celebrating the vital role of the community in supporting and working with the Department to prevent and fight crime. We are asking communities to light up the night against crime by turning on their outside porch lights from 7:00 p.m. to midnight in a show of strength and unity.We are also asking individual neighborhoods to get together and organize gatherings in their community that night to celebrate community pride.
Neighborhood involvement could be as simple as a group of residents waiting outside to greet the motorcade as it drives through the community or a more formal gathering that might involve a community cookout or picnic, drinks and snacks, an ice cream social, etc. The police department is able to supply a variety of handouts such as coloring books to assist individual neighborhood efforts.
This is a great opportunity to demonstrate community unity and to stand together in support of effective police/community partnerships!
Quantico
Town of Quantico National Night Out Tuesday August 6th 5 to 8 p.m. at the Quantico Municipal Parking Lot. Public Service displays plus food and fun! Come out and join your community in making Quantico a safer place to live and work!
Stafford County
Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will once again be participating in the Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. 19 different neighborhoods have signed up to host a National Night Out event in their neighborhood with most events starting in the late afternoon and going to the early evening.
The Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad, is also participating in a community wide National Night Out event at the TARGET parking lot of the Stafford Market Place. This is an open event that is also being held on Tuesday, August 6 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Everyone is invited to come by and enjoy numerous family fun activities. 100 different vendors, community organizations and businesses will be participating.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. National Night Out sends a clear message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and participating in active crime prevention.
Greater Manassas

Police in Manassas Park on their Facebook page said members of the U.S. Marshal’s, ATF, Virginia State Police, and the Prince William County Police Department’s Mounted Unit, to name a few, will make appearances at their celebration.
