Submitted News

MANASSAS, Va. -- On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, Fire and Rescue units from the City of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County responded to a fire in a home in the 10000 block of Abbott Road. A resident of the home left food cooking unattended in the kitchen. Another resident who was returning to the home, discovered the fire and tried to extinguish it with a bowl of water before calling the fire department. The only smoke alarm in the home had been disconnected a few days before the fire occurred.

The fire did extensive damage to the kitchen making the house uninhabitable. The Red Cross was able to assist the family of four and their pet with temporary lodging.
