North Stafford, Va. –– One person suffered burns in one of two house fires that kept firefighters in Stafford County busy Wednesday.
Flames broke out first at 1:01 p.m. at 96 Ervin Overlook in the Oakridge Subdivision, off Va. 610 in North Stafford.
Crews saw smoke billowing from the home as they pulled up to the home. They then saw fire coming from a garage attached to the single family home.
Two adults were home at the time of the fire, but both made it out of the home safely, said Stafford Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Mark Doyle.
The fire was emanating from a car parked inside the garage. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze within five minutes.
Crews were dispatched about an hour and a half later for a report of a second fire, this time at 111 Dover Place in the Sunnydale Meadows neighborhood, behind the Stafford Marketplace shopping center in North Stafford.
Crews saw heavy smoke and fire on the first floor of the town home, which prompted a second alarm, said Doyle.
One person was inside the home when flames broke out, was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector, and made it out of the burning home by help of a neighbor.
The victim was taken to a hospital with minor burns. No one else was injured, said Doyle.
The fire caused $200,000 damage to the home, and the cause of the blaze was ruled accidental.
In addition to units in Stafford County, fire crews were called from as far away as Quantico to battle the blaze.
