Woodbridge, Va. –– Investigators now hope a 20 thousand dollar reward will help lead them to whoever shot at five military installations in Northern Virginia.
The FBI announced the reward this morning, saying the money would be handed out for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person responsible in a series of shootings at military installations beginning Oct. 16 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle.
“We are following every lead that comes in and continue to call for the assistance of the public in helping us identify the person or persons responsible,” said John G. Perren, Acting Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office. “We are confident that someone out there has additional information that will be helpful to this investigation.”
No one has been injured in the shootings, but the Marine museum has twice been struck by the same shooter, police said.
The Pentagon, a Marine Corps recruiting center in Chantilly and a Coast Guard recruiting center in Woodbridge have also been targets.
All of the shootings have taken place during overnight hours, and investigators say someone may have seen the shooter on the nights the shootings have taken place.
The FBI says the shooter is familiar with the Northern Virginia area and may have had to provide an excuse recently to an employer or family member as to why they were absent from work or home during the hours the shootings took place.
Investigators also say thy shooter may have recently suffered a significant personal crisis like losing a job, getting a divorce or has experienced financial hardship.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the FBI’s Washington Field Office at 202-278-2000.
