Authorities say the teen, Safar Fasihullah, 16, was seen trespassing on school grounds on Wednesday, March 19. A School Resource Officer attempted to approach him, but the teen fled the scene before officers could make contact. An initial search of the area was unsuccessful.
Late Thursday night, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Washington Field Office, notified the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) that they were attempting to locate Fasihullah in the city. FPD personnel recognized the teen as the same individual involved in the school trespassing incident. Information from the FBI helped confirm his identity and raised new concerns about school safety.
