MANASSAS, Va. – Fall is a great time to head out to a park, and we have a lot to choose from. Joseph D. Reading Park at 8460 Maplewood Drive is one I visited this summer with my girls.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the gem at the end of this driveway. We passed by several pavilions that were set up for parties that looked very inviting to my party-loving preschooler.
There are two very well maintained playgrounds across from each other. One is geared toward older children and the other to younger ones. The areas are very similar with slides and swings, but the big playground has the “Wiggly Bridge” (as my preschooler called it) and some more climbing spaces.
The playgrounds do not have much shade. Thankfully, there are a lot of trees that provide relief from the sun. There is a water fountain near the bathroom, but it was not working the day we went.
Also, the bathroom had a strong smell of cleaner, but didn’t feel very clean. There was no soap, but the water did work.
Did I mention the space there is for children to run around? There was a flat field at the top of this hill that will be perfect for flying kites in the fall!
Overall, we really enjoyed our first visit to Joseph D. Reading Park. I definitely see us going there again. Kline’s Freeze, a soft serve ice-cream place, is not far from the park entrance so get a treat on the way in or on the way home!
