Severe thunderstorm watch canceled for Prince William County, but it remains in effect for Stafford County until 10 p.m.

DUMFRIES, Va. — A violent storm blew through Dumfries about 4 p.m. Saturday putting an abrupt end to a festival heralding the beginning of fall.
A rush of cold air roared though the town’ s Garrison Park behind Town Hall and ripped down tents, blew debris across a field, and left revelers at the Dumfries Fall Festival scrambling to take cover. At least one child was left with minor cuts and bruises, but town police said they had not seen reports of any injuries.
A live band was on stage as the storm approached, and Dumfries Vice Mayor Willie Toney was on stage announcing the winners of a live talent completion as skies darkened.
Following the announcement of the winners, the band once again began to play and then a severe wind gust wreaked havoc on the festival grounds. After people evacuated from the festival grounds, broken metal tent poles and garbage lay strewn across the ground.
The the National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Prince William County and surrounding counties prior to the approach of the storm. The area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.
