Metrorail will stay open an additional hour on Sunday, Oct. 17, to accommodate the crowds expected to attend the Washington Redskins game at FedEx Field. The organizers have paid Metro in advance to keep Metrorail open for an extra hour and so the system will close at 1 a.m. on Oct. 18.
The last Blue Line train headed toward Franconia-Springfield will depart the Largo Town Center Metrorail station at 12:24 a.m. and the Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station at 12:27 a.m. If the football game goes into overtime, trains will be available to get fans home.
In anticipation of the crowds, Metro will place additional trains into service at the end of the game. To assist riders, additional Metro personnel will be at the Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station, which is a short walk from the stadium.
Fans attending the football game who park their cars at the Morgan Boulevard (635 parking spaces) or Largo Town Center (2,200 parking spaces) Metrorail stations will have to pay $25 to park using a SmarTrip card when exiting these facilities. Cash is not accepted. Paid parking at these two stations begins three hours before kickoff, and continues two hours after the game concludes.
Metro encourages people to have enough money on their SmarTrip card to cover their round-trip or to purchase a round-trip fare card when entering the rail system to avoid standing in long lines after the game.
