Body of Islamic Leader Found in Occoquan

Fairfax County police now investigating the death of local Islamic leader Mohammed Mehboob, 58, said a state medical examiner will determine the cause of death. That report has yet to be released.

Mehboob’s body was found in the Occoquan River Thursday night after police used side-scan sonar to locate it in the water. Mehboob’s car was found on the Va. 123 bridge that crosses the Occoquan River earlier Thursday, and had been reported by Prince William police as a missing person.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — Police recovered the body of a director of a Woodbridge Islamic center late Thursday.

The body of Mohammad Mehboob, 58, was recovered in the Occoquan River. Police were called to the Occoquan River Bridge over Va. 123 Thursday morning where Mehboob’s 1992 gold Lexus was found abandoned.

Prince William police issued a lookout for Mehboob, and noted that he may be suicidal, and listed him as missing endangered.

Mehboob, of Manassas, is listed as a director at the Dar AlNoor Islamic Community Center on Hoadly Road just outside Dale City.

The investigation into Mehboob’s death will be handled by police in Fairfax County.
