Baseball Interns Get Chance at Love

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Can love be found on the baseball diamond? At Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, the Potomac Nationals hope so.

For the first time, the minor league baseball team on Thursday will invite fans to play a dating game to win an all-expenses paid date with one of the team’s four interns.

Three males – “Promotions Aaron,” “Groundskeeper Brett,” and “Picnic Dave,” have all agreed, OK, anxiously volunteered, to be set up on a date with a fan. As for the lone girl in the group – “Ticket Kristen” – it took some finesse to get her to play along.

“I put some feelers around the office a few weeks ago to see who would be willing to participate in the promotion, of course all the single guys wanted to do it but I had to persuade are lone girl in the competition to get involved. Everyone will be going on a group date so it won’t be quite as awkward if they don’t hit it off,” said Assistant General Manager Zach Prehn.

Prehn said the idea came from the massive popularity of dating websites and TV shows. Plus, the interns work long hours which sometimes makes it hard for them to meet new people outside of work.

The dating game will be played throughout the baseball game Thursday night when the Nationals take on the Frederick Keys at home in Woodbridge. Those who want to participate have been asked to email Prehn with a short bio of themselves, and some words on which intern they like the most. Those chosen will receive free tickets to the game.

“Who really knows if two people will hit it off, but I hope they do. I will say if someone does meet the love of their life at this event it will be a great story to tell the grandkids someday,” said Prehn.
