WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Omni SmartCommute, a program of the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, has launched an interactive scavenger hunt, called the Web Hunt, for those who work in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
The Web Hunt, omniwebhunt.org, gives Prince William County-area commuters an opportunity to win prizes and get useful information about how they can save money on their trips to work. The contest runs through 5 p.m. May 25, 2012.
PRTC’s Web Hunt is an innovative outreach campaign designed to raise awareness among local employees and their employers about the options and incentives available for commuting including public transit, vanpools, carpools, biking, walking and alternative work arrangements.
The campaign is being held to help celebrate National Bike Month and is designed to further reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by continuing the growth in the use of transit, bicycling and other alternatives to driving alone. For example, in 2011, PRTC saw its largest ever ridership increase of seven percent. Also in 2011, PRTC’s OmniMatch vanpool program had a daily average of 2,772 participants, showcasing another successful and in-demand option for getting to work.
The Web Hunt asks Prince William-area employees to visit a number of websites that contain useful information about commuting options. Participants will be asked to answer questions about the information contained in the websites. The first 300 participants to submit their answers will receive a commemorative Omni SmartCommute bike-chain keychain and everyone who answers the questions will get a chance to win a wireless KOBO e-reader.
“The Web Hunt is a light-hearted way for PRTC to engage the public about their menu of transportation choices and help discover convenient and money-saving opportunities provided by our team and other partner agencies,” said PRTC Executive Director Alfred Harf.
Omni SmartCommute helps create and expand commuter benefit programs for free for businesses in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. To participate in the Web Hunt or to provide Omni SmartCommute services to your employees, please visit www.OmniWebHunt.org.
