The effort to build the second diverging diamond interchange in Prince William County is well underway.
The new interchange, a relatively new design in Virginia, that puts traffic on the opposite side of the roadway to minimize left turns, is located on Prince William Parkway (Route 234) at Balls Ford Road, near Interstate 66. The $$118 million intersection will carry vehicles on Balls Ford Road over Prince William Parkway, ending the need for a signal light at that intersection.
The work is part of the larger effort to bring E-ZPass toll lanes to I-66. The already congested intersection gets worse when there's a large act playing at the nearby Jiffy Lube Live Amphitheater, as drivers who just exited I-66 queue up in long lines to get to the venue on show nights.
