Truck Used to Ram Gate

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Police said a man forced his way into a trailer on the grounds of a minerals plant, stole a truck, and then used it to ram open a gate.

Officers were called at 6:11 a.m. Saturday to the Vulcan Materials Company at 13260 Marina Way in Woodbridge for a report of destruction of property. The suspect forced open a trailer on the site, found a set of keys to a truck parked in the lot, and then tried to use the truck to flee the lot, according to police documents.

Finding the gate to the facility had been locked, but the suspect used the truck to ram it open and then drove onto another nearby parking lot where police were waiting.

The suspect suffered minor injuries, was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and was taken to a local hospital, according to police.

Damage to the gate was said to be $100, and minor damage was reported on the truck.

Joseph Michael Sharkey, 32, of 15373 Gatehouse Trail in Woodbridge, is charged with burglary, grand larceny auto, destruction of property, driving under the influence of alcohol – his third offense in 10 years, police said. He is also charged with refusal to submit to a breath test and driving on a revoked license. The suspect’s court date as unavailable and he was held on a $3,000 secured bond.
