Senior Chief Spencer Wallac Sagudan (USN-Retired), 82, of Triangle, Virginia and Hesperia, California passed away peacefully at home (Virginia) on April 5, 2021 after his brave battles with prostate cancer.
He was born on June 25, 1938 in Sagubo, Kapangan, Benguet, Philippines to loving parents, Dao-anes and Bonga Wallac and the youngest of eleven brothers and sisters. He later moved to La Trinidad, Benguet to attend Mountain National Agricultural School in 1955. After high school graduation, Spencer went on to work for Dangwa Transportation Company.
In June 15th 1965, he was selected and took the oath of service to begin his distinguished United States Navy career. His career at sea included serving on USS Calvert (APA-32) 1965-1966, (USS Catskill (MCS-1) 1968-1970, USS Stribling (DD-867)1974-1976, USS Suribachi (AE-2) 1976-1978. From March 1979 to January 1993, Spencer was selected to serve in the White House Staff Mess and during his time he served four United States Presidents (President Jimmy Carter, President Ronald Reagan, President George Bush and President Bill Clinton). In January 31, 1993, Senior Chief Spencer Sagudan was honorably discharged and retired after twenty-eight years of active-duty service from the United States Navy. His ribbons, medals and commendations included seven Good Conduct Awards, Vietnam Service Medal, two National Defense Service Medals and Navy Unit Commendation.
Senior Chief Spencer Wallac Sagudan (USN-Retired) is survived by his devoted wife Nieves Mariano Sagudan; his only child Ronald Sagudan and wife Analiza Gunaden Sagudan; grandchildren, Dylan and Dyanne. Two surviving siblings, brother Mayos Wallac and sister Luminda Geweng. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Pilinsa Wallac Bengala, Abanse Wallac, Matelyo Wallac, Enyo Wallac, Blas Wallac, Manuel Sagudan, Diego Wallac, and Betty Wallac Alutang.
Viewing and Prayer Service will be conducted at 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday, April 16th at the Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Boulevard, Woodbridge, Virginia 22192. Arrangements are being made for him to be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
