What are those tanker rail cars doing back in Mayfield?
That's the question asked by the Fredericksburg City Council as it recently passed a resolution that objects the cars sitting there for safety reasons. For over a decade, the city has wrangled with CSX Transportation over tanker cars that have been stored in the Mayfield neighborhood, just south of Blue and Gray Parkway.
CSX owns a rail yard in Mayfield and over the years stored tanker cars that contain hazardous and flammable material in that rail yard. Multiple homes are located nearby the railyard, and city officials are concerned for the safety of the neighborhood.
