This week’s traffic hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford

Here’s a look at construction hotspots in the Fredericksburg region, from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

I-95 Southbound

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound near Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for work in connection with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

Mile Marker 117 to I-95 Southbound Safety Rest Area (Mile Marker 108)
Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound will begin at 8 p.m. at mile marker 117, which is south of the Spotyslvania County and Caroline County line. Double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. for milling and paving this section of interstate. Double lane closures will end at 6 a.m. each day. A single lane may remain closed until 3:30 p.m. Read the release here.

I-95 Northbound

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)
Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound starting at mile marker 131, which is near the Rappahannock River Bridge, to north of Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) at mile marker 134. This work is in connection with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension (Fred Ex) project.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
Sunday – Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound near the Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) interchange will start at 8 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This work is in connection with the Exit 140 diverging diamond interchange project.

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville)
Monday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. A mobile operation will close two lanes on I-95 northbound to allow crews to inspect various overhead signs. Crews will begin at the Exit 143 interchange then proceed north to mile marker 145, just before the Stafford County and Prince William County line. Delays are possible.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. –10 a.m. Single lane closures and mobile operations on I-95 northbound and southbound at Exit 140 for line-striping. This work is in connection with the Exit 140 diverging diamond interchange project.

Stafford County

Route 17 Southbound
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 17 southbound near Sanford Drive to allow crews to work along the shoulder and curb as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Area
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Crews are working on final construction activities as part of the Courthouse Road widening project.

Expect brief delays and intermittent flagging operations with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:

Austin Ridge Drive
Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street, Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive
Ramoth Church Road
Snowbird Lane
Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
Woodcutters Road
Wyche Road

Hospital Center Boulevard
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect single lane closures on Hospital Center Boulevard between Courthouse Road and Route 1 for road work as part of the Courthouse Road widening project.

Old Courthouse Road
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Old Courthouse Road between Red Oak Drive and Route 1 for sidewalk construction.

Stafford County and City of Fredericksburg

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound at Falmouth Bridge
Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the Falmouth Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge repairs.

City of Fredericksburg

William Street Closure and Detour
William Street is closed at Sunken Road to westbound traffic for storm sewer work. Eastbound traffic on William Street will be slightly shifted to get around the work zone. Westbound traffic on William Street will be detoured to Littlepage Street and Hanover Street. Drivers are advised to follow the posted detour signs.

Lafayette Boulevard
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Southbound traffic will be shifted to the center lane with a lane closure on Lafayette Boulevard between Blue & Gray Parkway and St. Paul Street for turn lane construction into the future Telegraph Hill and Fredericksburg Park developments. One travel lane will remain open in each direction.
