Local governments provide resources to help businesses affected by coronavirus outbreak

Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg will use up to $50,000 from the city’s Economic Development Authority to help bail out small businesses negatively affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

City economic development director Bill Freehling tells us:

Applications are being accepted through Friday, and we expect funds to be disbursed to recipients the week of April 13. It’s unclear at this time how many grants will be awarded; application activity has been brisk.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April 3. Here’s the application form.

Meanwhile, the city has developed a new website in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak called fxbglovelocal.com, which is being used to promote restaurants in the city that remain open for takeout and delivery.

Stafford County

In Stafford, the county’s Economic Development Authority is accepting applications from county business owners for grants.

County officials tell us:

“We are still processing applicants for the Stafford Small Business Coronavirus Disaster Assistance Grant Fund. The Stafford Economic Development Authority has capitalized $250,000 in cash grants for operating capital to Stafford small businesses. As of this newsletter, funds are still available. Please review the fund guidelines, including eligible applicants.

Manassas

City officials in Manassas are informing business owners there about grants to be funded with WIOA Rapid Response funds, federal workforce distributed to the state.

Manassas Economic Development Director Patrick Small tells us:

“Governor Northam has released WIOA Rapid Response funding to local workforce areas to work directly with employers on layoff aversion strategies for their employees. The Rapid Response funds were distributed by population, so the Virginia Career Works Northern Region received $396,208 of the $1.5 million total.”

More information on the grants and link to apply is on the city’s website.

Prince William County

The Prince William County Department of Economic Development has developed an extensive webpage detailing federal assistance programs to businesses.
