North Stafford, Va. – Some might want to look twice, perhaps up, before they use a public restroom.
Stafford sheriff deputies said they caught a man who was in the ceiling on Sunday peeping on women while they were in the bathroom stall at Giant Food in the Doc Stone shopping center. The woman, a store employee, looked up and saw a hand sticking out of the ceiling. So she ran out the bathroom, grabbed a manager, brought them into the manager who told the man to come down but got no response, said Stafford sheriff spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Deputies were called and they found a ceiling tile that had been removed over a bathroom stall that had been locked, said Kennedy. Deputies used a ladder and crawled up through the ceiling and apprehended the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, said Kennedy.
Authorities said the man crawled through the drop ceiling and broke through the sheetrock wall that separated the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Javier Leiva Pena, 43, of Raleigh ,is charged with peeping tom, vandalism, and with marijuana possession, said Kennedy.
Though he’s from North Carolina, Kennedy said Pena was employed in the area.
