Jacqueline Gaston says, as a Prince William County resident, she’ll vote to approve a combined $396 million in bonds.
- $355 million of it would go for road projects, while $41 million would be used for parks.
- Here are the projects.
- Voters will see the bond questions on the November 5 ballot.
“Yes. Route 28 issues must be addressed, and the park improvements enhance our communities,” said Gaston.
Gaston is running for the Coles School Board District seat currently held by Willie Deutsch.
- While the School Board won’t be the one levying the bonds if approved by voters, the schools stand to benefit if property taxes are raised to pay back the bonds.
- Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman At-large told Potomac Local that up to $1 billion in new taxes would be needed to be levied pay back the bonds.
- A current revenue-sharing agreement means the School Board would get 57% of that money.
One of the road projects identified in the bond is a $220 million project to improve Route 28 in the Coles District, one of the most congested routes in Northern Virginia.
“Congestion on Route 28 must be fixed because traffic negatively impacts students’ commuting to/from school,” said Gaston.
