STAFFORD COUNTY — (Sheriff’s Department Press Release) A suspect was taken into custody on Thursday morning by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for assaulting a female subject with a weapon.
On September 12, 2019, at approximately 5:22 a.m., Deputy Aubrecht was parked in the area of 2650 Jefferson Davis Highway when he was flagged down by a woman. She was distraught and told the deputy she was involved in a domestic situation at her residence located on Tolbelt Court.
She that night her boyfriend struck her head with a handgun about 9 p.m. the night before, causing a laceration, and then placed the weapon in her mouth. Afterward, he holstered the gun and put both hands around her neck and began choking her.
He also closed the bedroom door and told her she could not leave. He was heavily intoxicated and she was able to escape about 5 a.m. Thursday after he passed out in the bedroom.
Rescue personnel was called to help the victim. In addition, Empowerhouse and a domestic violence advocate with the Sheriff’s Office also contacted the victim.
The sheriff’s office went to the house where the incident occurred around surrounded it. They used a telephone and eventually made contact with a man inside and told him to step outside. On several occasions, he exited the residence, but would quickly walk back inside.
When the suspect exited the residence for the third time and continued to fail to comply with the deputies’ commands, a deputy deployed his K9 partner, Havoc, who apprehended the suspect.
James Davis, 60, of Stafford, was taken into custody and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. He is charged with domestic assault and battery, abduction, strangulation, felon in possession of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding, and brandishing a firearm.
