WOODBRIDGE — Volunteer fire crews worked to a pull a dog from beneath a concrete slab.
Fire and rescue crews were called to the 14000 block of Franklin Street in Woodbridge at 10:15 a.m Saturday, to help Prince William County Animal Control officers.
A small dog had become stuck 15 feet below a slab of concrete on which a garage sat, according to OWL Volunteer Fire Department spokeswoman Rebecca Barnes.
Fire crews used shovels and picks from the volunteer company’s collapse rescue kit to dig a small tunnel, and then coaxed the dog out, said Barnes.
It took crews an hour and 15 minutes to reach the animal under tight working conditions, said Barnes.
Once free, the dog was taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. The dog appeared to be happy but weary, said Barnes.
We don’t know how the dog became stuck underneath the concrete.
