MANASSAS — Amy Ashworth picked up the endorsement of Virginia State Senator Scott Surrovell.
The Democrat is running for the job of Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney, the top prosecutor for cases in the county and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
“Amy Ashworth is the only candidate in this race who is committed to bringing real criminal justice reform to Prince William County, and that’s why I’m endorsing Amy for Commonwealth’s Attorney,” states Senator Scott Surovell in A press release. “Amy will focus on violent crimes that do the most harm and stop the needless prosecution of victimless crimes like possession of marijuana.”
Ashworth currently works as an attorney Farrell and Croft, P.C. in Manassas. She formerly worked as a prosecutor in the Special Victims Unit at the Prince William County’s Commonwealth Attorneys Office in Manassas. She seeks to replace her boss, the long-serving Paul Ebert who will retire after more than 50 years in the seat.
Ebert endorsed fellow Democrat Tracy Lenox, a criminal defense attorney from Woodbridge, to be his successor.
Ashworth and Lenox are two of four people running for the seat.
Republican Mike May, who mounted an unsuccessful against Ebert in 2015, is running again. So is Republican Tim Olmsted.
A Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 11. The deadline to register to vote in the Primary Election is Monday, May 20.
