Debra Haley has been keeping house for 25 years

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Assistant housekeeper Debra Haley has worked at the Hampton Inn on Williamson Boulevard near Manassas for 25 years.

“I’ve been here for 25 years, and I’m 62,” Haley said. “I’m going to try to stay here for four more years so that I can retire.”

As an assistant housekeeper, she ensures that the rooms are clean for the guests. There are several things she looks for to make sure the rooms are clean.

“We do not like hair in the bathroom,” Haley said. “We do not like dust. If the people are like me when I go to a hotel, that’s the first thing I check.”

Working at the Inn has several benefits such as insurance, an IRA, profit sharing and a Christmas bonus.

“The owners are great,” Haley said. “They are wonderful people. The managers that we’ve had here have all been great.”

While the area around Manassas has changed over the years, the people remain the same. Sometimes people are good tippers, but sometimes they aren’t.

“I don’t know if it’s because they don’t have it, or they just don’t care,” Haley said. “Some of them will come here and leave the worst mess you ever want to see and don’t leave a penny.”

Haley’s reasons for staying in the hotel industry for so long are simple.

“I love it… I love it,” Haley said. “The people that I work with are just like family.”

The hotel recently hosted members of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce for a rededication ceremony for the hotel.

After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains. “Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.”

Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. “I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, “My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”
