North Stafford – A house fire in North Stafford left a man, woman and a teenager homeless Monday.
Flames broke out at 208 Whitson’s Run Drive at 9:25 a.m., and when firefighters arrived to the home, they saw smoke billowing from the roof of the house, said Stafford County spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.
Firefighters found fire in the attic and worked for 14 minutes before bringing the blaze under control.
The two adults and teenage girl were taken in by the Red Cross, none of them injured.
Fire officials say the fire caused $100,000 of damage to the home, but still don’t know what caused the blaze.
An investigation is ongoing, said Riddle.
The fire prompted units from eight fire stations to respond to the blaze, including units from Stafford, Garrisonville, Aquia, Quantico, Potomac Hills, Mountain View and Falmouth.
In 2008, fire killed more people in the U.S. than all natural disasters combined, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
Of the estimated 1.5 million fires in the U.S. in 2008, 84 percent of all fire victims who died that year were killed in house fires.
