Stafford County, Va. — Eight men have been indicted on charges of theft after $1.2 million in copper wiring went missing form an area factory. Officials say four separate copper wire bundles, banded together, about 1,500 to 2,000 feet of wire, valued at $350,000, were stolen from the Ennstone Aggregate Plant on Va. 3 near Ferry Farm on May 13.
The plant had been closed and was undergoing renovations to reopen when he theft was reported, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Six days later, detectives were back at the plant in an effort to catch the thieves, and were able to catch one man enter the plant at night. The arrest led to a two-month investigation that turned up evidence pointing to the seven others connected to the crime, said Kennedy.
Derek William Smith, 20, of 3706 Fairfways Court in Fredericksburg, was arrested May 19. Additionally, Johnnie Ray Elliott, 39, of 6 Seaman Court in Stafford County, Robert Neil Adlon, 40 of 209 Lorraine Ave. in Fredericksburg, Wyatt Smith Rosenberger,
44 of no fixed address, Bryan Daniel Phillips, 29 of 6713 Timberbrooke Lane in Spotsylvania, Marline Page Williams, 50 of 401 Rumford Road in Fredericksburg, Derek William Smith, age 20 of 3706 Fairways Court, Fredericksburg, Brandon Lane McBroom, age 21 of Winding Hollow Drive, Fredericksburg and Michael Robert Goddard, age 20 of 2424 Deerfield Lane, Ruther Glen have each been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, grand larceny, larceny with intent to Sell destruction of property, said Kennedy.
Elliot, Adlon, Rosenberger and Williams are already incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on unrelated charges.
