Thelma Harriette Payne was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 3rd, 1927.
She went home to be with the Lord on September 24th, 2017.
Her marriage to the “love of her life,” Clyde Monroe Payne, lasted only 24 years before he passed away on April 15th, 1975. Survived by her two children: Alan and Janis, her four grandchildren: Ian, Daniel, Hailey and Conner, her three great-grandchildren: Seth, Brandon and Jordan, and her great-great grandson, Noah, her sisters: Katharine and Justine, brother Clarence, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was a faithful military wife, loving mother and grandmother. Raised in The Lutheran Church, she considered St. John’s her home church even after moving out of the area. There she had lasting friendships and fond memories of serving the youth. In her retirement years, she loved to stay up at the beach and travel whenever she got the chance. In the last several years Mom had close friendships at the Senior Center in Manassas. This marked her life: wherever she lived, she made many friends.
A Memorial service will be held October 14, 2017, at 11 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA, 22310.
