Louis Angelo (Lou) Balboni died from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was 84 years old. Lou is survived by Marie, his loving and devoted wife, his three children; Debbie Jones and husband Lynn, Arlene Stewart and her husband John, David and his wife Susan, his five grandchildren: Daniel Stewart (Sarah), Brian Stewart, Lauren Stewart, Nicole Collins, and Matthew Collins (Erin), a sister Rose Gallagher and her husband Mike of Wakefield, MA, their children; Lisa (Joe) and their children and Michael (Melissa) and their children.

Lou was born in Roxbury, MA and moved to Rosindale, MA as a preteen. He was one of two children born to Ermete and Adalgisa Grassilli Balboni, who had each come from the Ferrara area of northern Italy in their early twenties.

Lou and Marie were married in West Roxbury, MA on October 8, 1955. Lou graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1956, where he was in the ROTC program, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation he was offered a job with IBM, but first served two years in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Returning to the U.S. he resumed employment with IBM where he worked for 38 years, spending time in Owege, NY, East Fishkill, NY, Manassas, VA, White Plains, NY and again in Manassas, VA. He retired in 1993 and then consulted for two additional years from IBM Manassas.

Some of his affiliations include Pi Tau Sigma – Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Phi – Honor Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers – where he served as President, Society of American Military Engineers, and the Engineering Council.

On retiring, Lou became active in the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) as Chairman, PWC Solid Waste Citizens Advisory Group, Prince William Hospital Auxiliary, Woodbine Woods Civic Association and the Manassas Old Town Business Association. He believed in giving back to the community.

He was an amazing and kind man, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Lou was always anxious to help out with a project of any size. He was proud of his Italian heritage, enjoyed wood working, had a passion for Formula One Racing, and solving problems.
