Wilmington, D.E. –– With the score tied at one in the top of the fifth inning on Wilmington on Monday night, torrential rains forced play to be suspended. After a rain delay of 30 minutes, the game was postponed. At 5:05 on Tuesday night, the clubs will complete Monday’s game and play a seven-inning nightcap to finish a doubleheader.
This is the 14th Nationals game affected by rain in 2011.
Wilmington took a lead in the first inning Monday night off Potomac starter Adam Olbrychowski. Yem Prades tripled to left to open the game and scored on Nick Van Stratten’s sacrifice fly.
Olbrcyhowski battled wildness all night and walked a season-high five. After he worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth, the Nats’ offense tied the game. Steven Souza drew a one-out walk and scored on Sandy Leon’s double to left.
In the top of the fifth, Eury Perez singled with one out before Francisco Soriano walked. Jeff Kobernus was struck out, and before Destin Hood could see a pitch, the rains turned torrential and caused suspension of play.
