Ronald Lee Kniess, 74, of Dale City, VA, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 18, 2017 after a year-long battle with throat cancer.
Ron was born February 13, 1943 in Butler, PA. He is survived by his wife of thirty years Betty Jo Carr; daughter Jennifer Eades (Roger); son Peter Kniess; stepsons Timothy Gutierrez and Kevin Gutierrez (Shelli); sisters Darley Perlakowski (Don) and Cecilia Adasiak: and grandchildren Cristian Rivera, RauirĂ Eades, Joshua Kniess, and Liam Kniess.
As a young man Ron served his country from 1961-1965 in the United States Air Force. Until his retirement he made his living as a project manager in the construction industry. First in the Pittsburgh, PA region followed by relocation to the Northern Virginia area in the early 80’s. He was an extremely knowledgeable and skilled builder, always willing to lend these abilities to those needing his insight or hands-on assistance.
Ron was an avid history buff and in his spare time would often be found watching a wide array of history based television shows. He was a longtime, loyal, Pittsburgh Steelers fan and for the past several seasons he watched the Baltimore Orioles almost nightly, often surrounded by his much loved cats Paloosa, Solo, and QT. Rarely seen without his trademark beard and mustache, Ron was a guy’s guy but always warm with an easygoing personality. He truly cared about those in his life. Ron will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He fought the fight, finished the race, kept the faith, and is now reaping his eternal reward.
There will be a Memorial Service (time TBA) on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home and Crematory, 4134 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA 22193. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00pm on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd., Triangle, VA 22172.

Inspired by the devastating wildfires in California that have affected over 38,600 acres and led to evacuation orders for 88,000 residents as of Jan. 15, we reached out to Stafford County’s Fire and Rescue team to explore how they get ready for wildfires in this area.
A wildfire outbreak began in California on January 7, 2025 and continues as of Jan., 23. Over 47,000 acres have burned, with a new fire starting yesterday in Hughes County. Over 16,000 structures have burned due to wildfires in 2025.
Katie Brady, county fire department spokeswoman and Fire Life Safety Manager, clarified that “wildfire” is a broad blanket term. Stafford is likelier to experience “brush fires” than quick-moving wildfires that cause widespread destruction like California’s. Brushfires can range in size from a few feet to several acres and can be precursors to a larger wildfire capable of causing significant damage. Brushfires are more common when the area experiences drought conditions, like in 2024.
