Lyndon Armstrong Kidwell of Mount Vernon, Virginia passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2017 at INOVA Mt Vernon Hospital.
He was born in Virginia on August 18, 1926 to Ernest and Anna Kidwell. He lived in Virginia for his whole life. Lyndon did spend about a year in the Merchant Marines in 1945 but that was pretty much the only time he was away from home for any time.
Lyndon married Maxine Dixon in 1946 and they were married up until Maxine’s death on July 11, 1984. Together they shared 39 wonderful years together. They had two children, Diana and Lyndon. They all lived together happily at their house on Mt Vernon Highway for many years.
Lyndon went to work for the Army Map Service in the early 1960’s. He continued his work with the government until he had a heart attack in 1970. He then retired from Civil Service.
In 1985 Lyndon met and fell in love with Jane Margaret Engelman. He welcomed her son, John into his life and treated him like his own. They were together up until Jane’s death on August 24, 2009. Since that time John has been Lyndon’s main care giver. John would not have had it any other way.
Lyndon loved Christmas time. Which might explain his love of the color green!
Lyndon is survived by his daughter Diana Linguiti and her husband Mathew of Augusta, GA, his son Lyndon (Mickey) Kidwell of Renton, WA and John Engelman of Mt Vernon, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brian Lese of Lexington, KY, Andrea Lese of Morgantown, WVA, Rachel Heil of New Braunfels, TX, Julianne Kidwell and Lyndon Alexander Kidwell (Xander) of Newton Washington. His great grandchildren Kelly Lese, Olivia Heil and Amelia Heil as well as his great great grandchild Camryn.
There will be two visitations held at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home 13318 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, Virginia on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM. Services will take place at the funeral home on Monday, September 11, 2017 followed by burial at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia.

Several schools in our region have announced closures and delays for Wednesday, January 8, 2025, due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.
Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) announced that transit service, which was suspended on Tuesday due to winter weather, is expected to resume at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Residents relying on public transportation are encouraged to plan accordingly and check for updates before traveling.
In addition to transit disruptions, the city’s trash collection schedule has been adjusted. Monday’s missed routes resumed today, and services will shift forward by one day for the remainder of the week. Tuesday’s trash will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, and so on.
The City of Fredericksburg’s Public Works Department continues its efforts to clear snow and ice from roadways. Primary collector roads are reported to be in good condition, but some residential and collector roads remain compacted with snow and ice. Crews are applying plowing and chemical treatments as necessary to address these areas. As temperatures drop overnight, roads may refreeze, and drivers are urged to exercise caution when traveling.
The City also reminds property owners and occupants of their obligation to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties. Snow and ice must be removed within 12 hours after snowfall ends, or by noon the following day if precipitation occurs overnight or on a Sunday. Sand or abrasives may be used if removal isn’t feasible. Residents and businesses are also responsible for clearing ADA access ramps to ensure safe pedestrian passage.
