Malorie Fitzgerald, 59, died August 10, 2017 in Dumfries, Virginia from brain cancer. A memorial service will be held at First United Presbyterian Church Dale City in Woodbridge, Virginia on August 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM. She was born September 26, 1957, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia to John and Marjorie Lowell. Her father was a Navy Captain who had a 30 year career as a Surface Warfare Officer. Her mother also spent time in the Navy before she married and started her family.
Malorie graduated from Florida State University and spent ten years on active duty in the Navy where she served in Argentia, Canada; Brawdy, Wales; and Panama. Following her active duty Navy service, she moved to Orlando, Florida where she met her husband David, another Naval officer. They were married in December, 1991 and moved frequently until David retired from the Navy in 2007. In 2000 they adopted their first child from Thailand, Paul, and then adopted Luke and Arianna, also from Thailand, in 2004. Malorie remained affiliated with the Naval Reserve, and finally retired from Naval Service as a Navy Captain. They have lived in Dumfries, VA since 2004.
She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she served as a Christian Education elder, and also spent time substitute teaching in Prince William County. She was also an active member of Community Bible Study where she served as a Core Leader and Junior Homeschool Teacher..
Her interests included family, gardening, crafts, traveling and reading.
Malorie is survived by her husband, David; children, Paul, Arianna, and Luke; mother Marjorie; brother, John; and sister Kate.
She was preceded in death by her father, John.
