Leaving Prince William: Schools aim to scale back 14th high school, other construction in light of declining population, fewer births

Declining birth rates and the growing number of people fleeing the state for lower living costs have Prince William County Public Schools rethinking how it will build new schools and remodel existing buildings.

The county school board got the first glimpse of its proposed capital improvement plan, and it suggests delaying the construction of the county's 14th high school at Minnieville and Telegraph Roads in Woodbridge. The school board had initially planned to build and open the school this year when it purchased about 20 acres of land on which it would sit in 2021.
