‘He’s lost our trust:” Residents aim to recall Gainesville Supervisor Peter Candland

The Coalition to Protect Prince William is leading a recall effort for Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland.

The group of residents, mainly from the western potion of the county, is fighting an increasing number of data centers being built in the area and hopes to preserve the land's rural character. The site includes the Manassas National Battlefield Park, where two the north and south fought two key Civil War battles.

Prince William County aims to rival neighboring Loudoun County, which, for years, has had more data centers powering the world wide web than anywhere in the world. Coalition to Protect Prince William County President Elena Slchoshberg said Candland misused his office by participating in closed-door discussions with fellow supervisors about plans to approve data centers near the proposed Digital Gateway project, where 27 million square feet of data centers could be built next to the Manassas National Battlefield Park.
