The Manassas Park Governing Body has approved a resolution to allow flags representing special causes to fly on city-owned flagpoles.
The city has traditionally flown flags such as the U.S. Flag, the Virginia flag, and the city's flag on poles in front of its municipal buildings. Now the city will add banners that promote special causes such as breast cancer to that list of flags to fly.
The issue arose during the Governing Body's October 11 meeting when it initially decided to erect flags for special causes, such as breast cancer awareness, on utility poles throughout the city. But due to concerns about budget and manpower, a 30-minute discussion resulted in adjusting the idea from using the utility poles to using the city-owned flag poles.
