On Wednesday, Attorney Jennifer Parrish convinced the Stafford County School Board that it would violate an uncodified state law passed on March 30 if it didn't send children back to school wearing facemasks.
In effect until August 2022, the law mandates public schools to provide in-person education options for students to the "maximum extent practicable" and adhere to any mitigation strategies outlined by the CDC, superseding recommendations from state and local health officials. It comes after students struggled with, and some giving up altogether, with virtual learning.
Today, State Senator Siobhan Dunnavant (R-Henrico), the law author is slamming Gov. Ralph Northan for allowing school divisions to hide behind the law as many have worked to issue forced masking policies for the upcoming school year.
