Stafford County Public Schools students, teachers, and staff will spend at least the first 3o days of the new school year wearing masks. Students will return to the classroom five days a week, starting on Monday, August 9.
The School Board voted 5-2 on a second substitute motion during an emergency meeting Wednesday night to require the face coverings. School Board Chairman Holly Hazard made the motion and said it would give the School Board more time to review the effects of rising coronavirus case numbers across the state.
It will also allow the school division to gauge the spread of the virus when most children return to classrooms for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020. A federal mandate also requires children to wear facemasks on school buses, School Board members said.
