For now, unvaccinated children will not be on a government list that will be on file at area schools as children head back to class next month.
Dr. Alison Ansher, chief of the Prince William Health District, briefed county officials on July 13 about a statewide voluntary vaccination system that school nurses and principals can use to see who has received a coronavirus vaccination. Only children between the ages of 12 and 18 are eligible for the shot.
This week, the Virginia Department of Health recommended children and staff at elementary schools and some middle and high schools wear masks upon their return to the classroom. The recommendation comes even though the rate of coronavirus infection among children has been historically low.
