County moves closer to allowing data centers near Manassas Battlefield Park

Prince William County leaders voted to turn up the heat when studying multiple parcels of land next to the historic Manassas Battlefield National Park that could one day be home to data centers.

In a party-line vote, Democrats voted 5-3 to initiate changes to the county's comprehensive land-use plan that could clear the way to construct data centers on 800 acres of land next to the park. The move comes after county leaders on May 18 approved a $120,000 holistic, county-wide study of where to locate data centers best.

Just after midnight today, the Board directed the county's planning office to review changes to the county's comprehensive plan land-use plan, submitted by the respective property owners, and then return to the Board of Supervisors with recommendations on whether or not data centers, offices, and warehouses should be built there.
