Tuesday is the annual budget adoption day at the Prince William Board of County Supervisors meeting, and, just as they have over the past seven years, property taxes are about to increase.
The average homeowner will see about a $260 hike in their annual property tax bill. That's a lower increase -- about $50 less -- than what Supervisors had considered a week ago. Supervisors held a straw poll and agreed to lower the tax rate for homeowners who saw their property values increase by nearly 10% in the past year.
The $1.8 billion budget will fund all aspects of the county government during the fiscal year 2022, which begins July 1 and lasts until June 30, 2022.
