Martha Langton Gozzo 86, of Manassas, left this world on April 13, 2021 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital
She was predeceased in January of this year by her husband of 63 years, John, and by her eldest child Joseph, in 2014.
Family who loved her dearly and who honor her memory are her remaining children: Paul, Teresa and husband Mark Leigh, David, and Phillip, her granddaughters: Kristene, Valerie, Theresa, Stephanie, and Mary Ellen, and her sister and best friend, Diana Heymann. She also leaves a special friend Danny, who she cared for over many years.
Martha was a remarkable woman. Born with a 60% neural hearing loss and mild cerebral palsy, she started nursing school in 1953 only to be discouraged from continuing because the hearing loss might have affected her ability to respond and perform. She started college at the University of Connecticut where she met her future husband John. They were married in 1957 and she stayed home and raised her 5 children born between 1958 and 1965 while not fully living in the world of the hearing and not having the tools of the deaf world.
She expressed her love of life as long as she was able by singing in the church choir, attending daily Mass, loving to pray and read, giving of herself as a volunteer at church, for Hospice and Birth Right. She was a member of the Manassas Choral Society and was honored by Prince William County as one of 50 volunteers providing services to needy and under-employed parents. She was also a breast cancer survivor. Her greatest daily pleasures were ice cream, chocolate, and her coloring books.
Martha was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Manassas Virginia.
Services are private and will be held in May 2021.
