Shots rang out in Dale City at about 2:30 p.m.
Police and medics were called to the 13600 block of Lindendale Road, near Beville Middle School, for a report of a possible shooting.
No one was injured.
A portion of Lindendale Road was closed to traffic at Lombard Lane as police search for a gunman.
Police arrested one person in connection to the incident.
