There’s a new leader at Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FREDTransit), the local bus service that carries passengers on routes in Fredericksburg City and Stafford County.
Jamie Jackson will assume the dual leadership role, working both as director of FREDTransit and managing all of the transportation-related operations for the city.
Jackson has worked for the city since March 2020. Before taking that job, Jackson worked in Hampton Roads.

City Manager Tim Baroody announced today that FRED Transit Director Jamie Jackson will assume additional leadership responsibilities for transportation issues previously held by the Cityâs Transportation Administrator.  Ms. Jackson will now manage both FRED Transit and Transportation for the City.
Ms. Jacksonâs duties will include management of transportation projects which are funded by VDOT and the Federal Highway Administration and administered by the City. Â Additionally, she will be representing the City on Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Association (FAMPO) staff committees, participating in transportation planning, project management, and trail/pedestrian advancements.
âAs an organization, we work to live our City Values daily â specifically in this case: Agile Innovation and Unwavering Stewardship.  We are always working to discover better ways to deliver services and manage the Cityâs resources to the best of our ability,â said Baroody. âMs. Jacksonâs role as Director of Fred Transit will continue, and we are looking forward to her leadership as manager of Fredericksburgâs transportation projects as well.â  Jackson, who has been with FRED Transit since March 2020, will be assisted with her new responsibilities during a transition period over the coming months by other members of the City staff.  Previously, Ms. Jackson served as director of transit development for Hampton Roads Transit and before that as deputy executive director of the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority.

Prince William Countyâs State of the Parks event, initially scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Forest Park High School, has been postponed due to weather conditions and other considerations.
The State of the Parks event, set to feature insights from Prince William County Parks and Recreation Director Seth Hendler-Voss, will be rescheduled, with a new date and time to be announced soon.
âWe want to ensure that all participants have the best possible experience and that the event can take place safely and under optimal conditions,â officials stated in their announcement.
The Stafford County Board of Supervisors is considering a zero-tax-increase budget for 2025, which has drawn community members’ support and concern. During the February 4, 2025, meeting, parents and education advocates urged the board to fund Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) fully, emphasizing the need for higher teacher salaries, facility repairs, and student resources.
Speaking during the public comment period, Shannon Fingerholtz, a parent from the Hartwood District, called on the board to take responsibility for properly funding Stafford schools.
âOur students, our teachers, our staff, our community require a quality school system,â Fingerholtz said. âQuality means decently paid staff, buildings in good repair, and adequate materials. These all require funding.â
