‘Emancipation Highway’ name change bill leaves Stafford on the hook for $1.2 million

Politicians at the local and state level are all vying to rename Jefferson Davis Highway.

H.B. 2075, a bill introduced by Delegate Joshua Cole (D-Fredericksburg, Stafford), would rename large portions of the highway, known as Route 1

Cole proposes renaming the remaining stretches of the 200-mile highway in Virginia, which stretches between North Carolina and Washington, D.C., to the Emancipation Highway.
