Royal Farms, a Maryland-based convenience store chain has applied for special permits to open a new location at Alum Springs Road and Route 1.
The company would be building a 5,100 square foot store that would be complete with eight gas service pumps and indoor dining which is typical of their establishments.
It is also applying for a special exception permit for a parking lot which would allow it to go over the standard capacity for parking, which would allow it to have 175% of the number of spaces the city requires, netting an extra 27 spaces. The chain is hoping to provide 50 spaces at the new location with the rationale that since the store will act as a gas station and a dine-in restaurant the added spaces would be necessary to accommodate customers.
