Bridget Arlene Burgess was born October 7, 1966 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Beulah Credit and Eddie Lee Credit.
At an early age, she learned the Christian values of the Catholic faith that would be the guiding principles of her life. She later graduated from Istrouma Senior High School in Baton Rouge, LA with the class of 1984, and attended Louisiana State University, where she became a loyal fan of the purple and gold. In 1987, she embarked upon a life of service by joining the United States Air Force, where she served ten years of active duty, and two years in the Reserves. She fought bravely in the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991. She received several medals such as Joint Service Achievement, Air Force Longevity Service, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, and National Defense Service, just to name a few.
In retirement from the Air Force, Bridget continued working for our country as a Government Contractor. She was also a faithful servant and member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharist Minister, the Scheduler, and was a member of the Parish Council.
Bridget loved watching movies, cooking, and of course, shopping. She also enjoyed hanging with her girls, which usually involved brunching, shopping, and hilarious phone conversations. Bridget could spend hours on the phone, putting a smile on their faces. She was a loving and compassionate person.
The relationship she had with her mother and sister, Jean Credit, was not like any other. Bridget was a wonderful daughter and big sister. She cherished the times they would join her for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Bridget always looked after her mother, and always had her sisterâs back.
Most of all she loved and adored Steven and Jaden. They were her world. If you were lucky enough to be present when she spoke of them, it would have definitely warmed your heart. Bridget wanted nothing more than for them to know how much she loved them.
Bridget married the love of her life, Steven Burgess, on August 31, 1990. In May 2010, the couple welcomed Jaden Burgess into their home with open loving arms, and officially made him a part of the family on âGotcha Dayâ in November 2011. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Bridget was always willing to offer guidance and support to family and friends alike. Her extremely outgoing personality and generous spirit will never be forgotten by the countless lives she touched throughout her life.
Bridget entered her journey into eternity on December 8, 2020 at Sentara Medical Center.
Bridget leaves behind to cherish her memory: a devoted husband Steven Burgess of 30 years, of Woodbridge, VA and son Jaden Burgess; godchildren Ashley Wallace and Kateri Nixon; father Eddie Lee Credit; mother Beulah Credit; sister Jean Credit; three brothers-in-law Glenn Burgess, Darren Burgess, and Paul Burgess (April), and four sisters-in-law Pamela Coles, Joan Coles (Leroy), Sherice Burgess (Terry), and Jackie Clemons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished family and friends.
She is proceeded in death by her paternal grandfather Sydney Scott; paternal grandmother Mary Credit; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Agnes Meyers; mother-in-law Earline Burgess.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in Bridgetâs name to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) www.giving.mskcc.org.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors is considering a zero-tax-increase budget for 2025, which has drawn community members’ support and concern. During the February 4, 2025, meeting, parents and education advocates urged the board to fund Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) fully, emphasizing the need for higher teacher salaries, facility repairs, and student resources.
Speaking during the public comment period, Shannon Fingerholtz, a parent from the Hartwood District, called on the board to take responsibility for properly funding Stafford schools.
âOur students, our teachers, our staff, our community require a quality school system,â Fingerholtz said. âQuality means decently paid staff, buildings in good repair, and adequate materials. These all require funding.â
