Occoquan River clean up this weekend; Volunteers needed

Volunteers will take to the Occoquan River basin this weekend to help clean up the area.

From Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta:

This Saturday, September 12, is the date for the 11th Annual Occoquan River Cleanup sponsored by the Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition. The cleanup will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will range along the length of the Occoquan River from Cedar Run/Broad Run, through Lake Jackson, and from the base of the Lake Jackson Dam to Hooes Run and the Town of Occoquan.

During last year’s cleanup (2019) over 205 volunteers (45 on-water) collected over 4,495 pounds of trash. Below is both a map showing the general water and land cleanup areas and a flyer with more details. Interested participants should register at pwtsc.org for additional information and weather cancellation updates. For cleanup supplies, data sheets to report cleanup data, and to share pictures, contact [email protected]. Participants are asked to maintain social distancing and wear face masks as appropriate.

Thank you for your interest in helping keep the Occoquan River healthy and stay tuned for information on the semi-annual Friends of the Occoquan (FOTO) cleanup taking place in October.
